Description: Social networks have influenced our lives for several years as a source of news and play important role in marketing. Despite of the advantages and amount of users involve as major social network players, the need for improving their features seems necessary. Nowadays, sharing contents by users is the main factor that promotes social media runs actively and progressively though the common functionalities of social networks used are lack of effective technique. The social media only preserve available sharing contents as simple as uploaded external files with minimum contribution in social network interactions. The benefit of flow of information to improve the users’ communication is not considered. The purpose of this study is to identify the users requirements and potentials that can be used to improve users’ contribution to social network sites (SNSs), and then use these potentials by proposing new approach for improvement of SNSs. In order to verify the practicality of the research approach, a prototype is developed and evaluated. A combination of quantitative, semantic web and prototyping methods were utilized to achieve the objectives of this research. During the preliminary study, an online survey is conducted to identify SNSs’ user activities in sharing contents. Findings of the survey outlined some effects of visual contents in general and towards the images, specifically through the users’ activities in social networks. Analyzed results depicted that visual contents are preferred more than textual contents by users and the usage of semantic images could improve contents in terms of visibility, validity, popularity and clarity of the related contents. Review of previous studies with support of survey’s findings show that sharing contents with semantic ability to link with other contents/users could auto-generate social circles among users. Hence, reform the SNSs from just being as connection organizers into connection generators. The research prototype is developed and named IDENTITY. The aim of prototype is to demonstrate the effectiveness of research approach in terms of enhancing the flow of information and users communication in SNSs. Users’ evaluation conducted and analyzed during the prototype phase show the relevance and importance of the new approach proposed in this research.,Master/Sarjana
