The application of vehicle service and maintenance has a significant role in informing the owner or user that the vehicle is due for service at regular intervals to ensure prime operational condition of the car. Most vehicle owners and users are careless in paying enough attention to the maintenance schedule and due date. The problem is to reminding vehicle users that the mileage of their vehicle is approaching time for service or already due to be serviced. The current available advanced vehicle maintenance systems suffer from data transmission coverage problems resulting in loss and inaccuracy of transaction data. According to the latest research, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology is able to overcome these weaknesses. Therefore, the aim of this research was to propose a maintenance notification system based on RFID technology. This system can solve the communication coverage problem and reduce the number of modules to increase the accuracy of the data from Electronic Control Unit (ECU) and decrease the implementation cost. This proposed notification system reminds vehicle users that the vehicle is due for a service to avoid vehicle malfunctions and expensive maintenance as effectively and cheaply as possible. RFID system is relatively cheap to make and install, thus reducing the cost. This thesis simulates the hardware and data transmission signal. A program was implemented to transfer data between the RFID modules and the computer through a serial port interface for subsequent processing. Vehicle’s ECU has the ability to connect to a RFID tag for transmitting the data to the RFID tag reader in order to determine whether a vehicle needs servicing or not. This system as a practical simulator, informs the user through a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) installed on the reader device of the RFID system or on the dashboard of the vehicle. The results from the evaluation of the experiment and comparison with the available vehicle maintenance service systems showed that the simulated system is more effective in monitoring ECU parameters automatically and informing the owner in advance. It is one of the major improvements over previous efforts.,Master/Sarjana
