Description: A systematic study on two closely related genera of the family Guttiferae (Clusiaceae), Mesua and Kayea of Peninsular Malaysia was conducted. The objectives were to solve some taxonomic problems on some doubtful species and some unnamed taxa by clearly circumscribing the limits of taxa using morphological, anatomical and numerical analysis evidences. Although Mesua and Kayea have been traditionally considered congeneric, the study elucidated that only Mesua ferrea is found in Peninsular Malaysia and all the other taxa were transferred back to Kayea. Mesua ferrea and 22 Kayea species were recorded, described and recognized. Taxonomic review was carried out using morphological and anatomical characters. However, due to the unavailability of reproductive characters and fresh specimens throughout the entire course of study, investigation was carried out making use of vegetative characters alone. Given all the morphological and anatomical evidences, one reduction has been made, Mesua aff. assamica was transferred to Kayea beccariana. Four new records have been made, Kayea conoidea, Kayea crotonoides, K. julianii, Kayea oblongifolia, and two new species, Kayea latiffiana and Kayea monoica are described.,Certification of Master's/ Doctorial Thesis" is not available
