dc.descriptionKesan ketiga-tiga jenis racun serangga iaitu cypermethrin, deltamethrin dan trichlorfon yang biasanya digunakan untuk mengawal ulat bungkus kelapa sawit telah diuji ke atas S. dichotomus iaitu serangga pemangsa bagi ulat bungkus kelapa sawit. Racun serangga ini diuji ke atas serangga pemangsa dewasa (jantan dan betina) dan instar ketiga melalui kaedah pencelupan dan sentuhan. Tanpa mengambil kira kaedah ujikaji yang digunakan, racun trichlorfon mempunyai kesan ketoksikan yang lebih tinggi berbanding cypermethrin dan deltametrin. Hasil yang diperolehi turut menunjukkan, nilai LC50 serangga betina adalah lebih tinggi dan berbeza secara signifikan berbanding serangga jantan. Ini menunjukkan serangga betina mempunyai toleransi yang tinggi terhadap racun berbanding serangga jantan. Sycanus dichotomus instar ketiga didapati mempunyai tahap toleransi yang rendah terhadap racun berbanding pemangsa jantan dan betina dewasa. Hasil ujikaji larutan dos subletal racun serangga ke atas S. dichotomus instar ketiga melalui kaedah pencelupan menunjukkan bahawa, tempoh perkembangan S. dichotomus peringkat instar ketiga dan kelima adalah lebih panjang dan berbeza secara bererti (P<0.05) berbanding serangga kawalan. Manakala jangka hayat dan kesuburan S. dichotomus dewasa yang terhasil dari instar ketiga yang telah terdedah pada racun serangga tidak menunjukkan perbezaan yang signifikan (P>0.05) berbanding serangga kawalan. Sebaliknya, dos subletal didapati memberi impak negatif ke atas kadar pemangsaan dan kelakuan pemangsaan S. dichotomus betina. Serangga betina kawalan didapati mampu membunuh dua kali ganda lebih banyak larva Tenebrio molitor berbanding serangga pemangsa yang terawat dengan racun serangga setelah 24 jam terdedah pada larva T. molitor. Selain itu, S. dichotomus yang telah terdedah pada larutan dos subletal racun serangga mengambil masa yang lebih panjang dan berbeza secara signifikan (P<0.05) berbanding serangga kawalan untuk melakukan kelakuan pemangsaan. Ini disebabkan oleh berlakunya pemanjangan tempoh masa bagi aktivitiaktiviti kelakuan pemangsaan seperti melakukan aktiviti membangkitkan, menghampiri, dan menghisap cecair dari badan mangsa. Hasil kajian makmal ini jelas menunjukkan kepentingan menggunakan racun serangga yang sesuai untuk mengawal perosak tanpa memberi kesan negatif kepada musuh semulajadi perosak. Ini penting bagi memastikan aplikasi sistem PPB menerusi integrasi racun serangga dan agen kawalan biologi dapat dijalankan dengan berkesan dan sekaligus dapat mengurangkan kebergantungan pada racun serangga dalam mengawal populasi perosak daun sawit.,Effect of three insecticides commonly use against oil palm bagworms, viz., cypermethrin, deltamethrin and trichlorfon, were tested against Sycanus dichotomus, an important predator of oil palm bagworms. These insecticides were tested on adult (male and female) and 3 rd instar predator by using dipping and contact methods. Regardless the methods used, trichlorfon was more toxic compared to cypermethrin and deltamethrin. Result also showed that the LC50 values of female treated with insecticides were significantly higher than the LC50 values of male S. dichotomus. This indicates that the S. dichotomus female was more tolerant to insecticides compared to male. The 3 rd instar predator was found to be significantly more susceptible towards all insecticides tested than were the male and female adult of the predator. Results of the sublethal dose these insecticides treated on the 3 rd instar S. dichotomus by using dipping method showed that the developmental stage of 3 rd and 5 th instar were significantly longer (P<0.05) than untreated insect. Meanwhile, the longevity and fertility of S. dichotomus adult resulting from treated 3 rd instar showed no significant difference (P>0.05) compared untreated insects. In contrast, the sublethal dose gave the negative impact on the predation rate and predatory behaviour of female S. dichotomus. The control female predators were able to kill two time more (P<0.05) larva Tenebrio molitor then were treated insects within 24 hours after exposure to prey. Furthermore, treated insects also took significantly longer time (P<0.05) to start showing predatory behaviour as compared to control insects. This is due to the delaying of time to start predatory behaviour activities such as arousal, approaching, and sucking on the T. molitor larvae body fluid. Thus, results from this laboratory studies clearly demostrated that the importance of using suitable insecticide to control pest without harming natural enemies. This is important to ensure that the applications of IPM system through integration of suitable insecticides and biological control agents can be performed effectively and also to reduce dependency on insecticides usage in controlling the oil palm bagworms population.,Master-
