dc.descriptionThe constant policy upheavals in Malaysia Education System are always gearing to supply the country with marketable and productive human capitals for the sake of flourishing the economy. However, the production of such human capitals is often faced with setbacks especially in regards of inculcating civics or humanistic values in lessons in individual classrooms. Hence the Democratic Participation Program is created with the aims to foster critical literacy through democratic citizenship activities while practicing using language in a second language classrooms. Critical literacy and critical pedagogy are very suitable with the requirement of Malaysian Education Visions as it complements the six student’s aspiration outlined in the Malaysian Education Blueprint. The program requires students to role play as parliamentary candidates and go through the democratic processes in becoming a politician. This study employs a Qualitative Case Study design. Data was collected through students’ reflections, researchers’ field notes and interviews. Data was then collated and analyse through Thematic Analysis. Findings suggest that learners are able to move beyond the passive learning styles and are able to accept, manage and understand more complex information and ideas. Critical Literacy is fostered in terms of students' abilities in making decisions in regards of power, the students' ability to think and act ethically and they increase of knowledge in democratic processes.,Master of Education
