Description: Recently, the study of thiourea compounds increases due to their activities in many application fields. Some of bis(thiourea) compounds showed excellent performance in pharmaceutical and environmental fields due to their ability to form chelating complexes with various anions and metal ions. If thione and carbonyl groups of synthesized bis(carbonoylthiourea) compounds are in cis-configuration, the compound can be a good candidate as chelating ligand. In the present study, from seventeen reaction, fourteen new bis(aroylthiourea)hydrazine derivatives namely N,N'- bis(substitutedbenzamido-thiocarbonyl)hydrazines were successfully synthesized and characterized by CHNS microelemental analysis, FTIR, UV-Vis, and 1H and 13C NMR and mass spectroscopy. However, compound (V), (VIII), and (XIII) cannot be characterized due to the solubility problem. Ten of the molecular structures of the products were supported by chemical crystallography. The thiourea moiety in all the products possesses trans geometry and the hydrogen of the amide group is trans to the carbonyl group. Thus, the synthesized compounds cannot act as chelating ligand. All of the products showed no antibacterial activity against Vibrio cholera, Bacillus subtilis, and Escherichia coli. However, they exhibited higher antioxidant activity than ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) using 2,2'-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging method, except compound (XI) and (XII). Compound (IX) has the highest antioxidant activity with EC50 of 48.11 µM.,Sarjana Sains Kimia
