Kehadiran sebatian indol merupakan sebatian yang pertama kali dilaporkan dalam famili Arecaceae.,Studies were conducted on the fruits of Orania sylvicola from family Arecaceae (Palmae). This is important because there is no study have been done for this spesies. The study focused on the physicochemical analysis of oils as well as isolation of the chemical components. Extraction of the fruits O. sylvicola was divided into two parts, hexane and methanol extract. The hexane extract which consist of oils was analysed for their physicochemical properties including viscosity test, refractive index, iodine value, peroxide value, melting profiles and fatty acids compositions. Gas chromatography analysis showed that lauric acid (58.23%) appeared as the dominant fatty acid and the total content of saturated fatty acids present in O. sylvicola is up to 97%. Phytochemical screening in the methanol extract showed positive results for alkaloid, flavonoid and steroid. Methanol extract was then fractionated with chloroform and n-butanol through solvent partition. Isolation of the chemical components was performed by using column chromatography and radial chromatography. From the chloroform fraction, a mixture of sterols, known as stigmasterol and β--sitosterol and 5-hydroxy-7,4'-dimetoxyflavone were isolated and identified. The n-butanol fraction consisted of 4-hydroxybenzoic acid and 9HPirido[3,4-b]indole, also known as β-carboline. All of these compounds were characterized by various spectroscopic techniques such as Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy 1D and 2D, Mass Spectroscopy, Infrared Spectroscopy and Ultra Violet Spectroscopy and were confirmed by comparison with previous studies. The isolated indole alkaloid is the first time reported in the family, Arecaceae.,Master |
