dc.descriptionSatu kajian struktur komuniti hutan paya bakau dengan tiga objektif telah dijalankan di dua Taman Negara di Johor. Kajian struktur komuniti melibatkan penentuan komposisi, kepelbagaian dan anggaran biojisim di atas tanah spesies pokok bakau di dua jenis hutan paya bakau iaitu bakau pulau di Pulau Kukup dan bakau pesisir pantai di Tanjung Piai. Hasil menunjukkan terdapat 15 spesies bakau daripada empat famili yang berdiameter (DBH) 5 cm ke atas di dalam plot bersaiz 0.2 ha di kedua-dua kawasan kajian. Spesies yang paling dominan ialah Bruguiera cylindrica, dengan indeks nilai kepentingan 31.54% di Pulau Kukup dan 30.95% di Tanjung Piai. Indeks kesamaan komuniti Sorensen bagi kedua-dua kawasan kajian ialah 0.4, yang menunjukkan persamaan komposisi spesies sebanyak 40% di antara dua komuniti ini. Plot Pulau Kukup mencatatkan nilai Indeks kepelbagaian Shannon, H'=1.54 dan nilai indeks keseragaman, E=0.64, sementara; plot Tanjung Piai pula mencatatkan nilai H'=1.44 dan E=0.66. Biojisim atas tanah yang dianggarkan di Pulau Kukup ialah 135.5 t/ha, manakala di Tanjung Piai ialah 133.3 t/ha. Nilai ini lebih rendah berbanding biojisim hutan paya bakau lain di Johor. Penentuan dinamik populasi pula dilakukan terhadap dua spesies Rhizophora iaitu R. apiculata dan R. mucronata di Tanjung Piai. Sebanyak 100 anak benih yang kurang daripada 1 m ketinggian dipilih dan dicatatkan. Pengukuran ketinggian anak benih, kadar kematian dan kemandirian dicatatkan setiap bulan selama 12 bulan dari Ogos 2010. Kadar pertumbuhan relatif bagi R. apiculata ialah 0.27 cm cm -1 tahun -1 , dan 1.01 cm cm -1 tahun -1 bagi R. mucronata. Kadar kematian relatif bagi R. apiculata dan R. mucronata ialah 45.26% tahun -1 dan 42.27% tahun -1 masing-masing. Kadar kemandirian relatif ialah 54.74% tahun -1 bagi R. apiculata dan 57.73% tahun -1 bagi R. mucronata. Pemerhatian fenologi dilakukan terhadap tiga spesies, iaitu R. apiculata, R. mucronata dan R. stylosa di Tanjung Piai. Kaedah pemerhatian dilakukan setiap bulan dari Ogos 2010 hingga Julai 2011. Hasil menunjukkan bahawa spesies Rhizophora mengeluarkan kudup bunga, bunga mekar dan buah hampir sepanjang tahun. Namun, pola fenologi pembiakan individu-individu bagi spesies yang sama telah menunjukkan perbezaan. Pola fenologi daripada segi waktu puncak penghasilan unit pembiakan di antara spesies Rhizophora menunjukkan beberapa persamaan. Spesies R. mucronata dan R. stylosa telah menunjukkan waktu puncak penghasilan kudup bunga dan bunga mekar yang sama. Waktu puncak penghasilan buah pula berbeza-beza di antara tiga spesies ini. Tiada hubungan korelasi yang signifikan di antara fasa fenologi pembiakan Rhizophora dengan jumlah hujan dan suhu selama tempoh kajian di Tanjung Piai, menggambari hujan dan suhu bukan faktor utama yang membentuk pola fenologi bagi semua fasa pembiakan Rhizophora di Tanjung Piai.,A study on the community structure of mangrove forest with three objectives was conducted at two National Parks in Johor. The study on the community structure involved the determination of the species composition, diversity and above ground biomass of two mangrove forest types that were an island mangrove at Pulau Kukup and a coastal mangrove at Tanjung Piai. Results showed that there were 15 mangrove species from four families with diameter at breast height (DBH) of 5 cm and above in a 0.2 ha plot size at the two study areas. The most dominant species was Bruguiera cylindrica, with importance value index of 31.54% at Pulau Kukup and 30.95% at Tanjung Piai. The Sorensen community similarity index for these two study areas was 0.4, indicated that there were 40% similarity of species composition between the two mangrove communities. The Pulau Kukup plot recorded the Shannon diversity index value, H'=1.54 and evenness index value, E=0.64, meanwhile; the Tanjung Piai plot recorded the value of H'=1.44 and E=0.66. The estimated above ground biomass at Pulau Kukup was 135.5 t/ha, whereas it was 133.3 t/ha at Tanjung Piai. These values were much lower than other mangroves forest biomass in Johor. The population dynamics were determined on two species of Rhizophora in Tanjung Piai, i.e. R. apiculata and R. mucronata. A total of 100 seedlings less than 1 m in height were selected and recorded. Measurement of seedlings height, mortality and survival rates were recorded each month from August 2010 for 12 months. The relative growth rate of R. apiculata was 0.27 cm cm -1 year -1 , and 1.01 cm cm -1 year -1 for R. mucronata. The relative mortality rates were 45.26% year -1 for R. apiculata and 42.27% year -1 for R. mucronata. The relative survival rates were 54.74% year -1 for R. apiculata and 57.73% year -1 for R. mucronata. Phenological observations were conducted on three Rhizophora species, i.e. R. apiculata, R. mucronata and R. stylosa at Tanjung Piai. The observation was made each month from August 2010 to July 2011. The results showed that the species of Rhizophora produced flower buds, open flowers and fruits almost throughout the year. However, the reproductive phenological pattern of each individual of the same species showed some differences. The phenological pattern in terms of the peak period of reproductive organ production between Rhizophora showed some similarities. The species of R. mucronata and R. stylosa showed that both had similar peak period of flower bud and open flower production. The peak period of fruit production differed between these three species. There was no significant correlation between reproduction phenophases of Rhizophora with total rainfall and temperature during the study period in Tanjung Piai, reflected that rainfall and temperature are not the main factors influencing reproduction phenophases of Rhizophora in Tanjung Piai.,Master
