The survey samples comprised of secondary school students between the ages of 11 and 14 years old. This study aimed to determine the factors that influence the academic performance of secondary school students. In this study, 201 respondents were males which represent 44.0% of the population while 256 were females, representing 56.0% of the population. More females were involved in the study, particularly the Igbo ethnicity made up of 93.7% while other ethnic groups involved were 6.3%. The results showed that religiosity, home environment and socioeconomic status of the parents determine the academic performance of students. To validate the consistency associated with the variables that were used in the analysis, correlation and reliability statisitical analysis was used. Findings showed that religiosity and home environment are determinant factors of academic performance of the secondary school students in Awka South Local Government Area. In contrast, the socioeconomic status of the students’ parents does not reflect the true score on the consistency of the samples. However, the findings of this study show that socioeconomic status is not necessarily a burden on students’ academic performance compared to religiosity and home environment. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that religiosity and home environment have stronger relations to the students’ academic performance than the socioeconomic status of their parents.,Master/Sarjana | |
