Nowadays, advances in wastewater treatment technology help in promoting the utilization of treated wastewater effluent to minimize the environmental impact and to reduce the impact of water crisis suffered in some countries. However, clean and safe water is a crucial element for human sustainability. The objectives of this study are to evaluate the performance of disinfection units and integrated disinfection systems on Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) sewage bio-effluent for non-potable applications and to analyze their techno-economic. Single disinfection unit involved in this study include ultraviolet (UV) disinfection, chlorination, microfiltration (MF), and ultrafiltration (UF) membranes. The integrated disinfection system consists of UV disinfection or chlorination as the primary disinfection unit incorporated with either MF, UF, envirosource multi-media (EMM) or granular activated carbon (GAC) as pre-treatment. The performance of these disinfection unit and integrated process were evaluated based on the percentage removal of biological oxygen demand (BOD₅), chemical oxygen demand (COD), total suspended solid (TSS), ammonia nitrogen (NH₃-N), nitrate nitrogen (NO₃-N), phosphorus (P), Escherichia coli (E. coli), and trihalomethane (THM). Meanwhile, techno-economic analysis for each disinfection unit and integrated process was estimated for a design scale of 100 mm³/day and 5000 m³/day by considering both capital cost and basic operating cost of the system. The operating cost involved includes chemicals, utilities, and replacement cost for disposable materials. The results depicted that almost all commercially available disinfection unit and integrated disinfection process was able to comply with water reuse guideline set by US EPA. However, single chlorination unit and EMM-UV integrated disinfection system are suggested for restricted area applications at 100 m³/day design capacity and 5000 m³/day design capacity, respectively. Meanwhile single PVDF1001M membrane filtration unit is recommended for unrestricted area applications due to lowest total cost obtained from techno-economic analysis at both 100 m³/day design capacity and 5000 m³/day design capacity. Single chlorination unit has achieved zero number of E. coli in the treated effluent and reduced the TSS, NH₃- H, NO₃-N, P, COD, BOD₅, and THM up to 00.00%, 15.71%, 36.00%, 8.67%, 0.00%, 84.79%, and 0.00% respectively with total cost of RM 0.74/m³ for 100 m³/day design capacity. Integrated disinfection system EMM-UV on the other hand show reduction of E. coli, TSS, NH₃-H, NO₃-N, P, COD, and BOD₅ up to 100.00%, 40.00%, 8.90%, 11.29%, 12.68%, 10.93%, and 62.39%, respectively with total cost of RM 0.13/m³ for 5000 m³/day design capacity. Meanwhile, single PVDF1001M membrane filtration unit showed better removal of E. coli, TSS, NH₃-H, NO₃-N, P, COD, and BOD₅, which are 100.00%, 100.00%, 6.15%, 16.67%, 25.73%, 34.89%, and 77.95%, respectively with total cost of RM 0.50/m³ and RM 0.10/m³ estimated for 100 m³/day and 5000 m³/day scale, respectively.,Master of Science-
