The Supply Chain Management (SCM) is being widely implemented in companies across the world these days but however, implementing the SCM in developing countries, such as Iran and Malaysia, is still considered to be a major challenge due to several factors. Therefore, recognising the most important problematic issues and beneficial factors in these countries and focusing on the best techniques for overcoming problems through proposing a framework are identified as gap in this study The objectives of this study are firstly to recognise the current status of the implementation of the SCM in the Iranian and Malaysian automotive organisations, secondly to identify the issues related to the implementation of the SCM such as the problems and benefits, and finally to propose a framework for the successful implementation of the SCM in both the Iranian and Malaysian automotive organisations. In order to identify the perceived issues towards the SCM in these two countries, a questionnaire, structured interviews and case studies were used to collect information and data. In the first phase, survey questionnaires were sent to 300 Malaysian and 300 Iranian companies that are involved in the automotive industry respectively. The response rates were 26% and 26.1% respectively and the questionnaire findings indicate that the number of Malaysians (61.3%) was nearly twice as much as Iranians (31.4%) in implementing the SCM in their automotive organisations. However, the lack of expertise, lack of awareness of the SCM implementation, the implementation SCM is unnecessary and financial problems are the most important problems which impede both the Iranians and Malaysians in implementing the SCM. Structured interviews were conducted to find out the best methods of overcoming the aforementioned problems which impeded these companies in applying the SCM. The results of the interviews suggest that the benchmarking of successful companies is regarded as the best technique for overcoming these problems. Moreover, the Malaysians benefited more in implementing the SCM than the Iranians. Besides, improving the warehousing systems is recognised as an important benefit of implementing the SCM among both Iranian and Malaysian automotive organisations. Furthermore, the Iranians and Malaysians who are implementing the SCM suffer due to very pertinent problems as they lack of information, lack of equipments and expertises. Finally, a framework was proposed to suggest how these organisations could take countermeasures in overcoming the problematic issues when they are implementing the SCM in their companies. To evaluate this framework a case study and structured interviews were carried out. The case study was conducted on four Iranian automotive companies in a supply chain to implement the proposed framework. Multiple aspects of this framework were evaluated through this case study for the possibility of implementation and practicality. The framework suggests sharing the point of sale data (POS) across supply chain partners to make it possible for organisations to forecast their future orders. The findings from the case study demonstrate that during the implementation of the proposed framework, organisations have been successful in predicting their future orders and managing their activities in which they fulfilled more than 80% of their activities before the actual orders were received. This study provides some insightful information on how the Iranian and Malaysian automotive organisations are implementing the SCM and how they could improve in fulfilling the activities and workflow within their own organisations and the supply chains. This includes the identification and countermeasures in overcoming the major problems among these companies. The proposed framework suggests how the Iranians and Malaysians can apply the SCM more successfully.,Certification of Master's / Doctoral Thesis" is not available-
