dc.description | Vernacular architecture around the world is impressively rich with ingenious techniques applied by early dwellers to protect themselves from the diverse weather circumstances they were subjected to. Vernacular architecture of Iran (Persia) as well, has a reasonable relationship with the environment. Nowadays in Iran and most of the developing countries buildings are constructed regardless to the climate condition and with no respect to the environment. This style of building construction causes essential use of mechanical cooling and heating systems. In this study at first some information about climate of Iran will be given, then principles and characteristics of Persian precedent architecture will be investigated in order to extract some lost values, found in this heritage. Afterwards the research points out how these values have been compatible with the environment and this is addressing some of the ignored methods in order to be revitalized. Next, the values of traditional architecture will be explained according to characteristics of each region. This research demonstrates that design criteria used in vernacular Persian architecture were climatically responsible. In the main part of the research indeed, according to the principle of vernacular Persian architecture in hot and dry climate, and by implementing the old ideas into developing means some guidelines in terms of energy efficient design strategies will be suggested. The methodology of this study mostly relies on literature review and in some cases observation. The finding in terms of climatic responsive architecture is based on the historical interpretative research. In this regard traditional methods were evaluated and the approaches of integration traditional values into contemporary architecture were suggested via schemas and sketches. This research attempts to reveal the methods applied in such compatible and eco-efficient buildings in traditional architecture of Iran, with the hope that few lessons could be learned within this work for designing sustainable buildings.,Certification of Master's / Doctoral Thesis" is not available | - |
