The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of television screen attached to the dental chair as a mode of audiovisual distraction in reducing anxiety and increasing cooperative behaviour among young children attending the dental clinic for the first time for dental examination. 60 patients between the ages of three to six years were randomly allocated into two groups. The subjects in the intervention group watched television programme of their choice during dental examination while subjects in the control group underwent dental examination without exposure to the distraction. The children's anxiety and behavior response to dental examination was assessed using the Venham's Anxiety and Cooperative Behaviour Rating Scale. It was shown that the statistical analysis using chi-square test was statistically significant in both anxiety, (p<0.001) and behavior category, (p<0.001). From this study, there was evidence that exposure to television programme of choice during dental examination was effective in reducing anxiety and increasing cooperative behavior among young children attending dental clinic for the first time.,Tujuan kajian dijalankan adalah untuk mengkaji keberkesanan penggunaan audiovisual dalam mengurangkan keresahan dan menigkatkan kerjasama di kalangan kanak-kanak yang menerima pemerikasaan gigi.
