Description: The important role of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) has led to increasing attention on how to improve their performances and to enhance their contribution to the economic growth. However, the performance of SMEs in Malaysia has been declining due to the challenges faced. Therefore, this study will provide support and raise the level of awareness towards the importance of improving the performance of SMEs. Previous studies reviewed shown that use of performance measurement systems (PMS) is important and can affect firm performance, however in term of SMEs, there is a lack of evidence. Furthermore, network capability plays an important role to enhance firm performance especially manufacturing firm and its contribution to firm performance can be further enhanced with the support of the use of PMS. This study aimed to examine the different types of PMS usages; interactively, diagnostically and dynamic tension; and to find out how they can contribute to the performance of manufacturing SMEs through network capability. The resource-based view theory is used to develop the theoretical framework of the study. The method of this study is sending structured questionnaire and data was collected from 98 manufacturing SMEs in Malaysia. Data were analysed using structural equation modelling (SEM) with Smart PLS 2.0 software. The results show the types of PMS usage influences network capability in a positive manner with PMS interactively and dynamic tension, and in contrast, in a negativemanner with PMS diagnostically as hypothesised. Subsequently, enhancing manufacturing SMEs performances with a positive and significant relationship between firm network capability and manufacturing SMEs performances. The results also show that network capability fully mediated the relationship between use of PMS (diagnostically and interactively) and manufacturing SMEs performances. This study provides further information that contributes to the existing knowledge on PMS usage and firms network capability. Moreover, it provides empirical evidence that can be used to improve and enhance the performance of manufacturing SMEs and assist them in facing the challenges. Finally, this study is expected to increase the awareness of government, related agencies and policymakers on the importance of PMS and networking capabilities of manufacturing SMEs in supporting and enhancing the growth of the Malaysian economy.,Certification on Master's/Doctoral Thesis" is not available
