UKM has established strong ties with the University of Newcastle since the MoU between the universities were signed in 2007. I still remember officiating the first joint Cancer Research Forum in 2008 and I was told that the collaboration has indeed grown in nature since then. I am glad that this year the coverage has expanded to include the field neurosciences, hence the dual-track research forum this time. The University of Newcastle, is well known for its strength in neurosciences especially in stroke and also mental health. This conjoint forum is evidence that researchers from the region can come together and collaborate in many areas and not only in research. I understand that discussions are in progress to work on the double-badging PhD programme between the two universities. This is important for the internationalization of both universities as well as the other advantages of joint research supervision.
