Abstract: Rebana Perak is a musical art created from the Islamic art influences in the local communities’ culture specifically, in Perak. However, at present, the number of experts who are skilful in the production and playing techniques of Rebana Perak are slowly declining. In fact, there are only 3 known experts are still active in this art. This situation has led to the main problem in this research, as the intangible heritage components in terms of manufacturing skill and playing technique is deteriorating among today’s generation. Therefore, this research aims to preserve an information on the instrument design, production techniques, and playing techniques of Rebana Perak to avoid risks of this heritage asset being lost over time. This research covers three main objectives: 1) documenting the history and spread of Rebana Perak performing arts, 2) Identifying main component of Rebana Perak, and how it is made, 3) Analysing Rebana Perak Performing Arts, and 4) Propose the methods of preserving Rebana Perak as a native Islamic musical art. A qualitative research methodology consisting of fieldwork, face to face and online interviews was used to obtain primary data. The secondary data was obtained through literature review based on books, journal, and other corpus data that includes history, Rebana Perak, drum music, and local musical arts. Digital photo documentation process was also done using a digital camera. Photographs were then analysed by layered composition using Adobe Illustrator software. The findings show that Rebana Perak has its own distinctive characteristics in terms of musical instrument design, rhythm, song selection, and performance style that follows locals’ Islamic community culture in Perak. The heritage of Rebana Perak is a unique heritage, that requires attention so that it can be used to enrich our local Islamic culture in Perak and Malaysia.
