Explanation of rare words in the hadith and athar of the exegesis of Taysir al-karim al-rahman fi tafsir kalam al-mannan by al-Shaykh 'Abd al-Rahman al-Si'di

Abstract

The exegesis written by al-Shaykh cAbd al-Rahman bin Nasir al-Sicdi entitled Taysir al-Karim al-Rahman fi Tafsir Kalam al-Mannan is a simplified exegesis. Al-Sicdi quoted a number of hadiths and athars while interpreting some verses of the Qur'an. Some of these hadiths and athars contain rare words; either in terms of meaning or in terms of pronunciation. The objective of the study is to explain that al-Sicdi has a valid method in quoting hadiths and athars used as evidence and source of interpretation for the verses of the Qur'an. The study also aims to prove that this exegesis contains a number of hadiths and athars with rare words that require an explanation of the meaning. This study also aims to explain those rare words. The methodology of this study is library research. Inductive method was used to collect data, by examining hadiths and athars in this exegesis to identify the rare words. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive method to explain the rare words and their meaning by referring to the main books of hadith explanation, books of the rare words in Qur’an, hadiths and athars, as well as Arabic dictionaries. The study found that this exegesis contains 190 hadiths of which 67 contain rare words that have been explained. The study also found 10 athars of which four contain rare words that have been explained. The implications of this study are from the point of view of helping the reader to understand the rare words in the hadiths and athars of this exegesis. This study also plays a role in enriching the Islamic library with this book in its version of explained rare words in the hadiths and athars.
